Still I think more can be done. We are in fact designing some solutions that will almost eliminate red-light running. One has to do with moving red lights that grab the driver's attention. Most people don't realize that the color red is the opposite of the color green, so if one glances at a red light and looks away fast their mind might think they actually saw a green light. By moving only the red light, and effect that's similar at rail-road crossing lights, one can gain the attention of drivers that what they are looking at is different than the 'stationary' light.
Movement is in fact the easiest way to see everything. That is, if an object is camouflaged to match the background thus making it impossible to see, by moving the object it instantly becomes understood as being an object different from the background.
COLOR BLIND? So what do color blind people do when they can't see red? Well, by moving the lights this would alert them as to the stop light.
How it would work… with 2 red lights, each one would be a rectangular (the shape difference is a second way to enhancing the difference between the green 'go' light and the red 'stop light) LED red light that would have within it's shape a lit red circle in the traditional form. Each light would converge towards the other and then move away from each other. This contrast in movement would heighten the contrast between all background objects. When the 'round' light meets the ends it takes on the shape of the rectangle end. The red light would stay on continuously and not flash, but just slide from left to right and again until the green light was activated.
