PURPOSE: It is all too often that people think that nothing bad is happening around them only because they can't see it. I believe by raising awareness that more people will begin to appreciate just how much happens, perhaps just out of sight, around them. In Brooklyn, which has the highest insurance rates in NYC, 123 people have died in the last 3 years, many of them children. Thousands more have been injured, and even more vehicles damaged causing everyone's insurance rates to go up unnecessarily all because of a small minority of reckless drivers.
HONKING: Honking one's horn when someone is being reckless and potentially dangerous is an okay thing to do. It lets them know that perhaps their actions weren't the smartest and perhaps they will think twice before doing the same thing again. That said, there's no reason to honk if you don't have to slow down for them and are free and clear of any danger. Remember that when you honk your horn you could end up being the distraction that causes a collision, so do so only when you think it can be instructive and safe. Always honk if you are giving a warning of your approach to someone who isn't paying attention and may move into your path, or if it's an emergency and a collision is emanate.
