TA published this article: TICKETING JAYWALKERS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA
transalt.org/files/news/streetbeat/2014/Jan/0130.html#art1
It says that there are studies that show that there are less jay walking injuries than people who use crosswalks, but the study's don't show the percentages of jaywalkers versus those who use the crosswalk. It's obvious that most people use crosswalks and that only a minority do jaywalking, therefore it is no surprise to me that there are fewer injuries of jaywalkers. To use skewed studies and imply them a fact in order to promote an agenda essentially deceives the public and undermines both their trust and the credibility of the organization which promotes skewed data.
So I wrote a letter to TA, although I'm sure it'll be tossed in the trash because those who run TA are probably pedestrian only people who look at all drivers as 'the enemy.'
At Project Road Rush we don't tolerate BS, bigots, prejudiced points of view, or conspiracy theories, and will never bend the truth for it is this truth that sound solutions can be identified from.

Dear Transportation Alternatives,
Your article 'Ticketing JayWalkers is a Terrible Idea' I woefully irresponsible as it implies that Jaywalking is okay to do. This may result in the unnecessary deaths of more pedestrians whether it is the jaywalker or an innocent pedestrian stuck by a vehicle swerving to avoid the jaywalker, as it implies that pedestrians bear no responsibility for their own safety. And my reference to the innocent by-stander above is in direct contrast to the illegal jaywalker. Jaywalking is an extraordinarily dangerous activity, and like vehicle infractions should be enforced by law so that people don't do it. For you to imply that a pedestrian is a 'little guy' is totally ridiculous because the idiot that's jaywalking is probably the same idiot that drives like a fool. You seem to forget that it's individual attitudes that are at the root of most of the unnecessary road deaths in the city and by focusing on those individuals who disregard laws designed to keep everyone safe is to encourage more death and destruction. Remember, by ticketing a jaywalker the police could be telling a crazy driver that they better check their behavior.
The studies you cite do not take into account that the vast majority of pedestrians use crosswalks, therefore the 'numbers of injured' is fundamentally skewed.
It's time to find new leadership for TA before TA's credibility as a place which seeks solutions in a non-biased way for the sake of everyone's safety is lost forever. Articles like this one truly sicken me and really reflect an extremely biased attitude towards vehicular mobility, let alone are disconnected from the view points of the majority of citizens in NYC.
