After giving this a lot of thought and consideration for quite some time, I have come to make a difficult decision and a sad announcement: After a relatively short lifespan of a few months, my channel, Bad Drivers of Southern Ontario, will be going down.
No, I'm not being taken down because of half a billion copyright infringement warnings. (My channel is completely clean in that regard.) It is completely my decision to take this channel down. Why? Simply put, life happened. Because of everything I've been doing outside of YouTube and PRR (in other words, in real life), it has become pretty much impossible for me to maintain my YouTube channel. This is also the reason why uploads have become much more sporadic and why I almost never comment on other videos these days. Uploads used to be about two weeks apart, but recently they have been a month or more apart. Because I have to juggle so many things in my personal and professional life at once, I have only been able to jump on Premiere to edit videos once every blue moon. And editing videos is a highly time-consuming process. It takes me more than several hours just to put together an average-length seven-minute video. And don't even get me started on the extra-long fourteen-minute compilations. Even my channel's fifty-something-second-long April Fools Day joke took a couple of hours to edit. Editing alone consumes a lot of time out of my day that I can no longer afford to sacrifice.
I have taken my channel down, and naturally, all of its videos went down with it. My compilations, trailers and April Fools Day special can no longer be watched. This decision will let down all of my subscribers. My sincerest apologies to the 95 people in that list, including various dashcammers (many of which are here on PRR), casual YouTube users and Scotty Kilmer. Yes, that Scotty Kilmer. My PRR profile and Google account will remain (albeit idle), but I doubt that this will be the case for very long.
That said, I will still keep a dash cam running in my vehicle at all times. (Well, as long as it doesn't die on me.) I'm not going to stop using dash cams, obviously. I see their benefits and know that they're capable of saving my butt when I have to prove my innocence to the law. I'm just going to stop uploading video compilations of the crappy motoring that I spot to YouTube, at least for now. I may consider going back to uploading YouTube videos when I find myself able to do so again (and if I ever do so, I'll have to do it under a different identity by then since BDofSO will be long gone), but it won't happen for at least a year or two if it happens at all.
I know what you're thinking. "Why do you need to take down your YouTube channel? Can't you just leave it up there while you're gone and once you can go back to uploading videos you can simply pick up where you left off?" Explaining this requires an essay that is too long and long-winded for most people to bear, so I'll just summarize this in a very vague manner: I have my reasons.
However, if you're itching for videos of Southern Ontario's inept motorists, there are many other channels that have got you covered. There are at least four channels that cover the Greater Toronto Area alone, and a few more that go beyond that and drive in many of the same places that I drive. Just look up "bad drivers of Toronto" and you'll be able to find great videos (with a lot more audio!) by other YouTubers. So while you won't be seeing anything from me anymore, other dashcammers in Ontario are still out there capturing the ineptitude, blatant recklessness and motoring mayhem that more than a few Ontarians unfortunately do and putting them up on YouTube for the world to see.
Again, this is sad and tough, but it's something that I unfortunately need to do.
Thanks for everything.
Sincerely,
Bad Drivers of Southern Ontario
