Hello all! Just wanted to share my thoughts on the "dashcam" I use for my car, guess you could call it a type of mini review. As the title says I use the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition to record all my adventures on the road, now GoPros are very good cameras with very excellent quality all packed into one tiny device but if you want one for JUST dashcamming I would reconsider as you can get something at a more affordable price that's more convenient to set up in your car. I chose that particular camera as I really enjoy filming and video editing and will be using it for more things then just dashcamming. Here I will talk about if using a GoPro as a dashcam would be something you would like to do in the future or if you would rather just have a camera that's more convenient to use in a car to better suit your needs.
1. Do you want a dashcam you have to take out all the time?
Now the thing about GoPros is that they are very good, very expensive cameras and that is NOT something you want to leave in your car. The price Range is $200 to $400 and they don't hide very well so you basically want to take it out whenever you get out of your car. What people want with most dashcams is to put it in their car, start and stop along with the car and basically forget its ever there until the point they actually need it. They are making alot of good car Dashcams that do hide relatively well in your car here's a few examples.

2. Will you be using all the features the GoPro has to offer?
All GoPro Hero 3s see in 170° which is very great for a dashcam. They also have some amazing features now in this case the Hero3+Black Edition has the best as its the most expensive model. For one, lets talk about FPS (Frames Per Second) the more frames you have in a video the smoother the video will look, one of the reasons why I chose the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition is that it can record in 1080p at 60 FPS which is nice as 60FPS is the equivalent to what our eyes are able to see in real life and would be the smoothest video possible to show in an insurance claim. Most video cameras record in 30FPS which is the same speed youtube videos run, its still acceptable quality so don't think 60FPS is a must have. The GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition also has a low light mode that works very well! However it sacrifices half of its 60FPS to 30FPS to allow this. There is also ProTune mode which allows you to edit the video with greater detail such as the contrast, brightness, color, etc. There's more features but it would be alot to cover. I'll provide a link to the site so you can see for yourself.

When it gets right down to it, it all comes to what you want out of your camera and what kind of use you want to get out of it. Let me know if you have any questions and take a look at the video below to see a preview of what the gopro can record!
