Just wanted to share with you all about the Behavioral Based Safety program that I'm involved with at my current work place. Also would like you to share your work place safety practices and policies.
The BBS program is dedicated to helping spot work place hazards, and potential as risk behaviors that can cause injury. Honestly when I first started working there , eight years ago, I thought that the safety program went way overboard, but with extensive involvement I realized that it has rendered great benefits.
We are a team of about eight employees that conduct safety observations on other fellow employees when doing there daily job tasks. Are responsibility is to insure that they are conducting there job tasks in the safe manner possible. We also are responsible for filling out sheets when conducting an observation that are due at the end of every month. (Five are due every month). Here are some of the things listed in the observation.
Tools/Equipment Use in Safe Condition
Pulling/Lifting/Twisting/Ascending/Descending in a safe manner
Following (SOP) Standard Operating Procedure
House Keeping/Clean Work Area
Proper PPE for job task (Personal Protective Equipment) respirator/safety glasses etc.
These are just some of the things that we observe. All other employees that are not involved with the BBS program have to conduct a safety observation once a month on a particular work area. It has helped me take the attitude of safety outside the work place and apply it to my everyday routine. Never though that the safety program at work would help me in the long run. I'm glad and honored to be apart of it
