You may of seen those Russian and eastern block dash cam video with all the collisions. A lot of times I think some of these are totally preventable, here's a few reasons why:
1) Maintenance of vehicle. To see brakes fail or wheels fall off vehicles, really?
2) Driving too fast on snowy conditions. Dumb and very preventable.
3) If a situation is developing ahead of you, slow down, put on your flashers to warn others to slow down too.
4) Driving too fast past slow or stopped vehicles in the lane next to you. You might have the right to travel at the speed limit, but it's not wise to go more than 10 mph faster than any traffic in the next lane, because someone there will probably decide to change lanes in front of you, or maybe they're stopped for a different reason than you think, like a wandering drunk.
5) Driving in the medium or in the emergency break down lane. Both are way more stupid than you think if you do this because someone is bound to pull into you thinking they have the legal right to do so, and they're right.
6) Using the left or right turn lane to go straight. You'll be surprised how fast you're going to have to call a tow truck company to remove your vehicle from the road.
7) Using dual turn lanes. You better stay in your lane not only in the turn but at least 3 car lengths beyond the turn to ensure no one is next to you. If not, expect higher insurance premiums.
8) Those dam pedestrians. I just watched a video where they go strolling across a 2 lane but fast road causing a heavy truck to loose control trying to stop and smashing into an oncoming vehicle. It's the last clip in this video:
9) Not using your turn signal. You might think you know who's behind you and therefore it doesn't matter, but you could be wrong or even misjudged the speed of an oncoming vehicle. Give people behind you a break and besides they might loose control trying to avoid your dumb lazy ass. Using a turn signal is way too easy. Don't be a wuss by not using it.
10) Who are the idiots when collisions occur, well it's safe to assume it's the people in the collision. Still one party could be totally innocent of doing wrong, or maybe some stupid pedestrian ran out into traffic causing everyone to crash and they walked away like it was nothing. I'm stressing the importance of not speeding. If you do speed you'll wish you had the extra time to stop that you through away when you pushed your gas pedal down. Pushing a gas pedal down isn't exactly a sign of being the boss… after all it's a foot that does it. What it really shows is you are willing to do something really stupid, like speed, and everyone knows they could do it too but are instead shaking their heads as they watch you fly by knowing that you'll pay a hefty price one day. Hopefully you won't take the life of anyone, because that would be a burden you'll regret forever.
