I think we can nicely learn each other by linking our/others clips with close-calls / accidents - with not obvious reasons - and proceed some brain storm 'investigation', just for avoiding similar situation in your driving.
I do it for myself everytime close call happened. To ascertain what I could do better in exact case.
You can't read comments in Polish easy, so I narrate shortly. Because it could be case for court actually.
In this incident - if the collision with white van happened - the policeman judge... my fault most probably. Or even refuse to start procedure because the incident happened on private property area where traffic law doesn't work. Strange? As many other things in Poland.
I was proceeding maneuver very similar to U-turn (however it wasn't) so should yield every vehicle and pedestrian. Even if he/she/it behaves unpredictable, braking traffic rules. That's often judges' interpretation in Poland.
We have problems with traffic law because it's complicated, changes year by year, and is containing many elements which may exclude each other. (I must buy 'Traffic rules with interpretation' handbook every 1-2 years, to keep up knowledge. My current book is containing 550 pages).
I show you under some usual accident interpretation's examples in Poland.
Example No.1. There's night. You're doing full stop before turning on main street. Nobody arriving at first glance, so you're starting... CRASH! Some driver going on main forgot turn on headlights. In Poland you have huge problem. He had priority and you should remember 'the limited confidence to others rule'. Yes, you should expect the witch flying on unregistered stealth broom!
Example No.2. You're doing full stop before turning right to main street. There's car on main, arriving from left. Is slowing down, the right indicator is nicely flashing. You're starting. DONG! That driver change his mind in last second and went straight. In Poland it is your fault. He had priority and, yes, keep in mind 'the limited confidence to others rule'.
Example No.3. You're signalizing left and (after few seconds) gently swerving to just begining turn left line. BANG! Your car's trunk disintegrated. Some driver behind you overtaked others, was speeding and crossed double line, to reach left turn line first, cheating others and you. In Poland it's your fault. You changed line, you should check your back and passed the cheater (sic!). You should predict unpredictable because 'limited confidence to others rule'.
In Iraq there was (is still?) one simple rule - if your car has crashed front after collision, it was your fault.
